The Tatas own a 100% stake in Air India (a full-service airline working in domestic and international markets) and also 100% in its subsidiary Air India Express (a low-cost carrier airline focusing on short-haul global operations, particularly in the Middle East market) & 50% in the joint venture Air India SATS (airport assistance on ground and cargo handling). 

Air India & AIXL has A total permanent and contractual employee strength of 13,500.

The Tatas will receive ownership of iconic brands like Air India, Indian Airlines & the Maharajah. Air India has a fleet of 117 wide-bodies and narrow-body aircraft, & AIXL has a fleet of 24 narrow-body aircraft. Air India holds a significant number of these aircraft. 

Air India contributes a unique and attractive international trail. The amount of Air India’s consolidated revenues are more than 2/3rd of the global market. It is the number one authority from India in the international market with a strong footprint over geographies like North America, Europe, & the Middle East with engaging slots & respective rights. The Air India regular flyer program has more than 3 million members. 

Future of Air India  

After the takeover of Air India by the Tatas, it is expected to expand the number of business-class and transfer travelers, develop operational efficiency and pay dues on time, all of that will benefit airports. 

The aviation industry is abuzz with Air India’s privatization means for the sector. Industry specialists said that with the Tatas obtaining Air India, airports could earn more revenue.

  • a completed Declaration and Barring Service (DBS) test
  • A medical test, although some airlines may not need this.
